CWA Dagger 2024 winners announced
In the UK, the winners of the Crime Writers’ Association (CWA) Dagger Awards have been announced, reports the Bookseller.
Among the winners across 13 categories was Tell Me What I Am (Una Mannion, Faber), praised as ‘haunting and beautifully written’, which won the Gold Dagger, presented for the best crime novel of the year. The Ian Fleming Steel Dagger for thriller of the year was awarded to Jordan Harper for Everybody Knows (Faber), which the judges described as ‘brilliantly constructed and fast-paced’, while the John Creasey (New Blood) Dagger for debut novels went to Jo Callaghan for In the Blink of an Eye (S&S UK), which judges described as ‘fresh, original and gripping’.
Chair of the Daggers committee Maxim Jakubowski said the past year had been ‘yet another remarkable year of crime writing in which our impartial judges have uncovered a crop of wonderful books’, adding that the awards had been a ‘momentous occasion for independent publishers who have swooped on the majority of the awards and, in particular, Faber & Faber, who have achieved a rare double of Gold and Steel Daggers’.
As previously reported by Books+Publishing, Chris Hammer’s Dead Man’s Creek (published locally as The Tilt, A&U) and Kate Morton’s Homecoming (A&U) were longlisted for the 2024 Gold Dagger.
