Sullivan appointed MWF festival director

Veronica Sullivan, head of programming at the Wheeler Centre (TWC), will step down from the role at the end of August to become festival director at Melbourne Writers Festival.

Said Sullivan: ‘It has been a true privilege to be part of the Wheeler Centre’s programming team since 2018. I am deeply grateful for the invaluable experiences and insights I’ve gained through collaborations with artists, audiences and partners, and treasure the wonderful colleagues I’ve had over the years. I look forward to enjoying the brilliant future programming the Wheeler Centre team produces as an enthusiastic audience member.’

In a statement TWC said Sullivan had been an ‘instrumental programmer and leader in her six and a half years at the Wheeler Centre, ushering the organisation through the pandemic lockdowns with a revolutionary approach to programming’.

Said TWC CEO Erin Vincent: ‘Veronica has made an impressive mark on the Wheeler Centre’s programming, and her creativity and passion will be deeply missed. Her curation of year-round programming is of the highest standard, and she has worked on many successful major events over the years, including Spring Fling, World of Words and the Broadly Speaking series. Veronica’s enthusiasm and support for emerging writers is also worthy of celebration, and her work in this area has helped many writers kickstart their careers. I wish Veronica every success at Melbourne Writers Festival and look forward to collaborating in the future.’

Sullivan’s last day at the Wheeler Centre will be 21 August 2024. TWC said applications for the role of head of programming would open 2 August.
