Margaret and Colin Roderick Literary Award 2024 shortlist announced

The Foundation for Australian Literary Studies (FALS) at James Cook University has announced the shortlist for the $50,000 Margaret and Colin Roderick Literary Award.
The eight titles shortlisted for the 2024 award, chosen from 235 entries, are:
- Lola in the Mirror (Trent Dalton, Fourth Estate)
- Life As We Knew It: The extraordinary story of Australia’s pandemic (Aisha Dow & Melissa Cunningham, Scribe)
- Restless Dolly Maunder (Kate Grenville, Text)
- Two Sparrowhawks in a Lonely Sky (Rebecca Lim, A&U Children’s)
- The Conversion (Amanda Lohrey, Text)
- Edenglassie (Melissa Lucashenko, UQP)
- A Brilliant Life (Rachelle Unreich, Hachette)
- Praiseworthy (Alexis Wright, Giramondo).
The award is presented to a book first published in Australia during the current year that ‘deals with any aspect of Australian life’. The 2024 award is judged by Leigh Dale (chair), Mary Vernon and Susan K Martin.
The winner, who will a monetary prize as well as the H T Priestley Memorial Medal, will be announced in October.
