Inaugural Shalom Australian Jewish Book Award 2024 winners announced

The inaugural Shalom Australian Jewish Book Award winners were announced at the Sydney Jewish Writers Festival, which ran 21 to 25 August.

Michael Gawenda won the Leslie and Sophie Caplan Award for Jewish Nonfiction, worth $10,000, for his memoir My Life as a Jew (Scribe).

Anna Jacobson won the Young Jewish Writers Award, worth $5000, for her poetry collection Anxious in a Sweet Store (Upswell).

The Australian Jewish Book Awards, which were announced in March, recognise excellence in contemporary Australian writing on Jewish subjects, and aim to promote the reading of these texts and to inspire and support current and future Australian authors on Jewish subjects. The awards also include a prize for an unpublished manuscript, to be announced in November.
