Laura Harris launches publishing services business

Former publishing director, young readers, at Penguin Random House (PRH) Laura Harris has launched a children’s publishing services business.

Laura Harris Publishing offers editorial and advisory services for children’s book authors and illustrators as well as for trade publishers. The business also offers management and workshops for established and emerging creators.

Fee-for-service mentorship is also available for children’s authors and illustrators, with potential mentees to go through an application and matching process. Harris told Books+Publishing the business would select one mentee per category (picture book, junior fiction, young adult) for the 2025 program, with the program to involve work with a mentor over four sessions, as well as a concluding session with Harris ‘discussing where to next for the creator’.

Harris left PRH in 2023 after 35 years in publishing. She worked with authors including Melina Marchetta, Morris Gleitzman, Mem Fox, Aaron Blabey, Gus Gordon, Pamela Allen, Graeme Base, Felice Arena and Sonya Hartnett, among others.
