Chief Minister’s NT Book Awards shortlist announced

The shortlists for the 2024 Chief Minister’s NT Book Awards have been announced.

Shortlisted titles in each category are:

Fiction

  • futurespective (Sophie Benkemoun, Travel Maker Press)
  • Hush (Ciella Williams, Playlab Theatre)
  • To Kill a Crested Bellbird and Other Stories (David Jagger, Bad Apple Press)

Nonfiction

  • Holy Woman: A Divine Adventure (Louise Omer, Scribe)
  • Living in Tin: The Bungalow, Alice Springs, 1914–1929 (Linda Wells, Ginninderra Press)
  • You Are Here: An Exhibition (Therese Ritchie, Charles Darwin University Art Gallery)

Children’s/YA

  • A Little Spark (Barry Jonsberg, A&U Children’s)
  • My Brain Is Magic: A Sensory-seeking Celebration (Prasha Sooful, illus by Geeta Ladi, Soaring Kite Books)
  • Tangki Tjuta—Donkeys (Tjanpi Desert Weavers, A&U Children’s).

This year’s shortlist was selected by judges Leni Shilton, Marie Munkara and Jane Godwin.

Begun by the NT Writers’ Centre in 2009, and originally called Territory Read, the biennial awards celebrate excellence amongst published authors residing in the NT.

The winners, each receiving $10,000 alongside promotion and touring support, will be announced on 17 October 2024.
