Readings Prize 2024 winners announced

Readings has announced the winners of the 2024 Readings Prize in each category and the winner of the Gab Williams Prize.

The winning titles are:

New Australian Fiction Prize

  • Thanks for Having Me (Emma Darragh, Joan)

Young Adult Prize

  • We Didn’t Think It Through (Gary Lonesborough, A&U)

Children’s Prize

  • Wurrtoo: The Wombat Who Fell in Love with the Sky (Tylissa Elisara, illus by Dylan Finney, Lothian)

Gab Williams Prize 

  • A Way Home (Emily Brewin, MidnightSun).

First established in 2014, the Readings Prize aims to ‘support and champion new and outstanding Australian voices’. The winners, selected from shortlists in children’s, YA and new Australian fiction categories, each receive $5000. The Gab Williams Prize is judged by the Readings Teen Advisory Board from the YA shortlist, with the winner receiving $1000.

Last year’s prizes went to Tracey Lien for All That’s Left Unsaid (HQ), in the new Australian fiction category; Ann Liang for If You Could See the Sun (Harlequin Teen), in the YA category; and Maryam Master for No Words (Pan), in the children’s category. In 2023, Completely Normal (and Other Lies) by Biffy James (HGCP) was the winner of the inaugural Gab Williams Prize.
