Singleton on 2024 Novel Prize shortlist
Publishers Fitzcarraldo Editions, Giramondo and New Directions have announced the 2024 shortlist for the Novel Prize.
Local author Hollen Singleton is among those shortlisted for the prize, for their novel manuscript ‘Moss House’, which is told from the perspective of several housemates as ‘mosses grow over streets and houses, starting in Sydney and spreading along the coast’.
The full shortlist, selected from 1100 submissions, includes:
- ‘How to Live Together’ (Rey Conquer)
- ‘Touch Me Now’ (Neal Amandus Gellaco)
- ‘Porcupine’ (Nick Holdstock)
- ‘Ruins, Child’ (Giada Scodellaro)
- ‘Moss House’ (Hollen Singleton).
The Novel Prize is a biennial award for a book-length work of literary fiction written in English by published and unpublished writers around the world. The winner, to be announced next month, will receive a US$10,000 (A$16,051) advance against royalties, and their work will be published simultaneously by the collaborating publishers across North America, the UK and Ireland, and Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.
Local author Jessica Au won the inaugural prize for Cold Enough for Snow, and the 2022 prize was shared between UK author Jonathan Buckley and US author Anne de Marcken, for their respective novels Tell and It Lasts Forever and Then It’s Over.
