Carnegie, Caldecott, Newbery, Printz winners announced

In the US, the American Library Association (ALA) has announced the winners of its 2025 Youth Media Awards.

The winning titles in each category include:

  • John Newbery Medal for the most outstanding contribution to children’s literature: The First State of Being (Erin Entrada Kelly, Greenwillow)
  • Randolph Caldecott Medal for the most distinguished picture book for children: Chooch Helped (Rebecca Lee Kunz, Levine Querido)
  • Michael L Printz Award for excellence in literature written for young adults: Brownstone (Samuel Teer, illus by Mar Julia, HarperCollins US).

The ALA has also announced the winners of the 2025 Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence:

  • Fiction: James (Percival Everett, Mantle)
  • Nonfiction: A Walk in the Park: The True Story of a Spectacular Misadventure in the Grand Canyon (Kevin Fedarko, Scribner).

Several other honours have also been announced as part of the ALA’s LibLearnX: The Library Learning Experience, held in Phoenix in the United States. A full list of recipients and more information about the awards is available via the ALA website.
