Tasmania Reads 2025 events announced

Tasmania Reads will be held in libraries and partner organisations across the state 23–29 March 2025, and will include the launch of a new Writers’ Room at the State Library and Archives of Tasmania.

‘Tasmania Reads will bring together book lovers, writers, illustrators and creators to highlight the connections and benefits that can be found through stories and reading,’ said Libraries Tasmania. ‘Events include author talks, visits from Story Dogs, book launches, theatre performances and story activities for children.’

Of the Writers’ Room, Libraries Tasmania executive director Patrick Gregory said: ‘As part of celebrating Hobart as a UNESCO City of Literature, this space will support the work of writers and literary organisations, celebrate the work of Tasmanian writers throughout our history and inspire new voices and stories.’

Gregory said: ‘We know that Tasmania is a place of many stories, and Tasmania Reads celebrates how stories from Tasmania, and from across the world, enrich our lives. It is wonderful to see the reading, writing and creative community in Tasmania combine to offer a great range of events.’

Hobart was named a UNESCO City of Literature in 2023, the second UNESCO City of Literature in Australia after Melbourne achieved the status in 2008.

All Tasmania Reads events can be viewed on the Libraries Tasmania website.
