Hardie Grant is a leading Australian independent publisher, specialising in illustrated non-fiction, fiction, kids, travel and lifestyle titles, complemented by a dynamic portfolio of overseas publishers.
Reporting to the Head of Production: Children’s and Ultimo Books, we are now seeking a Production Controller role responsible for providing production expertise to support the delivery and creation of market-leading and top-quality books.
Core skills required to succeed in this role include:
- Book Production Process – Working knowledge of prepress, printing and book production process.
- Project Management & Multitasking – Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaboration & Communication – Strong ability to coordinate and work cross-functionally with internal publishing teams, sales teams (Australia/UK) and suppliers.
- Software Proficiency – Skills in Adobe Creative Suite (high level of proficiency InDesign and Acrobat), and Microsoft Office Suite.

You are a motivated and detail-oriented production professional with a passion for publishing. With a strong understanding of publishing process and print and digital trends and excellent communication skills, you thrive in a fast-paced environment where multitasking and problem-solving are central to your role.
Our ideal candidate is proficient in managing project budgets, scheduling and possesses proven skills in liaising with suppliers including printers, typesetters, freelancers and other related partners.

This is a full-time, permanent Production Controller position, based in Melbourne (Collingwood) Salary is in the range of $67,000 – $72,000 + superannuation per annum.
