Senior commissioning editor (0.8 FTE), Melbourne

Monash University Publishing

Do you have exceptional editing skills, commissioning experience and an eye for high-quality books across trade and scholarly markets?

In this key position, you will work in a small, busy team to edit and project-manage titles from idea to print with a high level of independence. You will also commission several titles per year across subject areas including politics, biography/memoir, history, psychology and popular science.

You will work closely with authors and stakeholders, including the editorial advisory committee, the publisher and the Monash University Publishing staff and board. You will meet publication timeframes, uphold the editorial charter, oversee contractual and legal obligations, take a proactive approach to commissioning within and outside the university, and develop and maintain series. In this senior role, you will also contribute to board reporting and staff training and supervision.

This is a rare opportunity to join a respected university publisher and play a genuine role in building a list.

This position is based at the Clayton campus, with flexible work arrangements available in line with Monash’s hybrid work model.
