Frank Moorhouse Reading Room 2025 residents announced
Sydney Review of Books has announced the inaugural recipients of the Frank Moorhouse Reading Room writing residency.
The incoming residents are:
- Lur Alghurabi
- Sam Elkin
- Thomas Moran
- Beejay Silcox
- Ali Jane Smith
- Cher Tan.
Three residencies will take place in May/June and three in October.
This residency program invites Australian writers to ‘engage with the [Moorhouse] collection onsite and produce an essay in response to items of their own choosing’. To do so, residents will each spend a week at the Whitlam House in Cabramatta, New South Wales, with travel and accommodation costs covered.
Residents will also each receive a $1500 payment for their long-form essays, which will be published in the Sydney Review of Books.
The Frank Moorhouse Reading Room (FMRR) was established with the donation of Moorhouse’s collection of Australian short story and essay anthologies to the Writing and Society Research Centre at Western Sydney University. The collection spans more than a century of Australian writing, from the late 19th century to the 2010s.
More information is available on the Sydney Review of Books website.
