Why do I need to add title details when I use an ISBN?

Registering your title details within your MyIdentifiers account is an important step in helping your title reach its audience.

All publisher and title information that is supplied to us via our MyIdentifiers website is included in our publication Bowker Books In Print® and its associated publications.

These publications are sold via subscription to those in the book industry who are researching and purchasing titles regularly, including bookstores and libraries.

Bowker Books In Print® is one of the major reference tools used by the book industry to source, research and order titles.

Many online booksellers get a data feed from Thorpe-Bowker to populate their websites, so it will add to your titles’ discoverability to be included.

Several months after you have added your title details to your MyIdentifiers account, they may also appear in a Google search.

When all the basic metadata have been added to the mandatory fields (those marked with a red asterisk) within your ISBN dashboard, you can click ‘submit’ and your title registration is complete.

If you are not sure of some details initially, you can add data incrementally. If you click the submit button, your data will be saved until you return to complete your title registration.

This is also important as, quite often, you will need an ISBN for a title you are working on way before you have any of the other data needed to complete your registration. Just adding the title at this point will safeguard any costly double allocations.

To further enhance your entry, a cover image, book description and author biography can also be added.

When your details are complete, you can click the green tick at the left of your title to get a glimpse of how it will appear in our Bookwire database and Bowker Books In Print®.
