The ALS Gold Medal is awarded annually for an outstanding literary work and has been in existence since 1928. Previous winners include Patrick White, Henry Handel Richardson, Randolph Stow, Thea Astley, David Malouf and Michelle de Kretser. Foal’s Bread has also been shortlisted for the 2012 Prime Minister’s Award, the Kibble Award and the WA Premier’s Awards.
