Doris Lessing, the British novelist, poet, playwright and Nobel Laureate, has died at the age of 94. The internationally acclaimed writer died peacefully at her London home.
Lessing, who was best known for The Golden Notebook and The Grass is Singing, won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2007 for her life’s work at the age of 87.
Her short story The Grandmothers has recently been adapted in to the feature film Adoration.

HarperCollins would like to congratulate Pamela Williams, author of the best-selling book on the decline of the Fairfax media empire, Killing Fairfax: Packer, Murdoch and the Ultimate Revenge (ISBN 9780732297664), which has been shortlisted for the prestigious Walkley Book Award 2013. The winner will be announced in Brisbane on 28 November.

Nominations are now being accepted for Australia’s largest and most important award for business literature, the Ashurst Business Literature Prize (previously the Blake Dawson Business Literature Prize).
For the first time in its decade-long history, the $30,000 Ashurst Business Literature Prize will be open to Australian authored works addressing Australian or international and global commercial life and its participants.
The range of subjects covered by the prize includes corporate and commercial literature, histories, accounts and analyses of corporate affairs as well as biographies of business people. As in previous years, authors must be Australian citizens or permanent residents in order to be eligible.
Books eligible for nomination must have been first published between 1 September 2012 and 31 August 2013, and be commercially available in Australia within this period.
Nominations close Friday, 6 December 2013.

Taylor & Francis Group will open its Books division in Australia and New Zealand in 2014.
Since 2000 the books business of Taylor & Francis has had full sales and marketing representation and distribution through Palgrave Macmillan and that will continue until end March 2014.
Taylor & Francis is currently finalising its future distribution arrangements and an announcement is imminent. Recruitment of sales and marketing personnel is in process and announcements to the market will follow.
